Matt Hayes Wild Fisherman - Norway

Available from Deltamusic.co.uk & Amazon UK

Wild fisherman follows British Angler Matt Hayes as he travels the world in search of unspoilt game fishing. One of the last great unspoilt wilderness areas of Europe, Norway is blessed with breathtaking scenery: from the awe-inspiring fjords to the towering mountains; from the cascading waterfalls and crystal clear lakes to the deep pine forests, Norway’s landscape is a visual feast. For anglers, Norway offers some of the most exciting sport-fishing in the world. Pike, Trout and the king of fish, the mighty Atlantic Salmon ensure that any fishing adventure is packed with excitement and opportunity.

EPISODE 1 – MJØSA, NORWAY
Britain’s two best known anglers Matt Hayes and Mick Brown join forces to fish on Norway’s largest and deepest lake – Mjøsa – for a big fish trolling adventure. The team fish overnight from boats, targeting ferox trout, and after a long cold night on the lake Mick lands a monster of a pike on the downrigger lure. With spirits buoyed the jubilant twosome land a whole host of pike and perch, but as bad weather closes in it’s time to put an end to this leg of the adventure, and for Matt to bid farewell to Mick.

EPISODE 2 – RIVER TANA
Matt fishes the River Tana, which forms a natural border between Norway and Sweden. This river is famous for its wild salmon fishing, but today it’s wild trout that are the target species. Within minutes he is into his first fish on the dry fly – a beautiful brown trout weighing about 2lbs. Over a pot of ‘iron filings’ coffee Matt discusses tactics with Pia and Hans, local fly fishing experts, and following their expert guidance he soon lands another wild trout off the riverbank, another satisfying catch. Matt ventures upstream to one of his favourite haunts; a hike across the recently thawed tundra is required to reach this beautifully secluded mountain lake. He targets wild brown trout using a float tube.

EPISODE 3 – RIVER GLOMMA, RIVER TRYSIL
The Glomma or Glåma is Norway’s greatest river, and Matt comes here for another drift-boat adventure, this time in search of grayling. It’s back to boats to try fly fishing for trout on the River Trysil, but it’s a large grayling that steals the show and is declared Matt’s fish of the day.

EPISODE 4 – WINSNES, NORWAY
A place that is close to Matt’s heart, Winsnes and its historic lodge have been hosting fishermen for decades as they come to try their luck on one of the best salmon rivers in the world. Matt fishes the beautiful River Gaula and has his sights firmly set on catching wild salmon on the fly. During the night he lands a spectacular 21lb salmon – a fantastic result for the tricky conditions. After a bout of rain, it’s the trout that are biting, but at the end of the day it’s time to bid a hasty retreat, as the river looks set to flood.
