Great British Classic Cars

Available to order from Deltamusic.co.uk and Amazon.co.uk

TRIUMPH
There can’t be many pastimes more rewarding and pleasurable than owning a classic car; and there’s certainly no classic car quite like a Triumph. In this programme you can see a handpicked selection and take a front seat as they’re put through their paces.

Also awaiting your attention is the rich history that lies behind each featured model. The Stag, TR2, TR7, Herald and the schoolboy dream Spitfire are all featured in detail - classic, iconic models indelibly implanted in the minds of enthusiasts of the loved and respected Triumph marque.

MG
The MG car company was founded in the 1920s by Cecil Kimber, who was at the time employed by another illustrious name in the automotive world, William Morris. MG in fact comes from the name Morris Garages.

As a marque, the MG name was in production for over 50 years, creating some of the most iconic and muchloved sports cars in motoring history. In this programme we explore many of these historic vehicles while getting “up close and personal” with the personalities and car enthusiasts who make up the MG world. The K3, Midget, Roadster, PA, TA, MGB, all feature in this collection.

Star billing has to go to the white MGA tourer, a beautifully restored and much loved classic MG car.

VAUXHALL
As one of the most long-standing and successful motor companies Britain has ever known, Vauxhall, alongside other great names of the car industry, makes up the foundation of the nation’s unique motoring heritage. Vauxhall has produced a plethora of models, ranging from military transport and sports cars, to family and commercial vehicles, and in this programme we explore a handful of their most celebrated models.

A fine example of a Vauxhall 14 opens the programme, closely followed by the epitome of elegance and post-war chic, the Velox. Next to be featured is a 1948 model J type, followed by the trailblazing Vauxhall 10. Originally priced at £168, this car helped bring the open road to the British post-war family, due to Vauxhall’s reduced production costs, and the company’s wise decision to pass the savings onto the consumer. A white VX490 is next to be shown, and can only be described as a true 1960s machine. It is followed by a red 1924 Vauxhall 30/98, a show-stopper and a head turner, in real life and on the small screen, which brings this gala performance from one of Britain’s best loved marques to a finale.

MORGAN & AUSTIN MORRIS
Here we visit two great British events. The first is Brooklands Museum for an Austin and Morris motor gathering. Every year the museum holds special open days when the public and motor enthusiasts can visit the excellent Museum Of Motor Racing, see the famous Brooklands Track and watch cars attempt to climb the famous Test Hill.

Our cameras were there to capture this unique and fascinating event. In part two we visit a Morgan owners club rally in the beautiful setting of Margam Park, South Wales, to see hundreds of Morgan sports cars both old and new. It is an event not to be missed! So sit back and enjoy the spirit of motoring past and present.

Great British Steam

Available to order from Amazon.co.uk and Deltamusic.co.uk now!

Northern England
In this enthralling programme from 1994, we visit the North of England, birthplace of the industrial revolution and home to an enormous variety of steam interest. In Middleton, one of the world’s oldest railways has been resurrected, while the Bowes Railway works its early rope-hauled inclines. In the Lake District, narrow gauge steam conveys tourists through the beautiful scenery of Ravenglass and Eskdale, but equally delightful are the standard gauge railways over the North Yorkshire Moors, and in the high valley of South Tyneside.

Active preservation societies operate traditional Pennine branch lines at the Keighley and Worth Valley, and in East Lancashire. Steam centres at Carnforth and Southport maintain locomotives which have access to BR’s main lines, but the whole is fi nely complemented by collections from the National Railway Museum at York and the Beverly Museum of Army Transport.

Scotland
Scotland has a proud railway tradition, and its steam heritage has been kept alive by a number of preserved railways, some of which are featured in this absorbing programme from 1994. Foremost is the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway, where the Scottish Railway Preservation Society operates both its own and BR’s metals, culminating in a long-awaited return of steam to the Highland Main Line. In Glasgow, the Museum of Transport has preserved locomotives from all major Scottish Railways, as well as commemorating the Glasgow Tram.

Industrial Railways are represented by the Scottish Industrial Railway centre near Ayr, and by a small, but dynamic Railway Society at Prestongrange in East Lothian. While in the Highlands, the Strathspey Railway, and the Caledonian Railway at Brechin provide for the tourist and enthusiast alike.

Southern England
The Bluebell Railway was Britain’s first preserved standard gauge railway and in 1994, when this engrossing programme was produced, was still expanding, as was the nearby Kent and East Sussex, and the Great Central Railway (which has now adopted main line running). The Severn Valley Railway promotes itself as Britain’s premiere steam railway, while Paignton and Dartmouth is ‘the holiday line’. All demonstrate the enormous enthusiasm generated by the steam locomotive. Other tastes are catered for by the Lavender line’s Wine & Dine Steam Specials. The Sittingbourne and Kemsley and the Foxfield Railway both appeal to industrial enthusiasts, and the incredible Romney Hythe and Dymchurch, the most fully equipped 15” gauge railway in the world, is also featured. We fi nish with the South Devon Railway, the epitome of a GWR rural branch line.

Wales
The small narrow gauge lines that once carried slate and other materials from the quarries to the Welsh coast led the way for the British Railway Preservation Movement. This delightful programme from 1994 shows how these lines provide for railway enthusiasts and tourists alike, and also features the activities of the Ffestiniog Railway, Welsh Highland Railway, Bala Lake, Llanberis Lake, Corris and the father of them all, the Talyllyn Railway.

Railways at Fairborne and the slopes of Snowdon (Wales’ highest mountain) were built to cater to visitors, as was the Conwy Valley Rail Museum and the Great Orme Tramway at Llandudno. But standard gauge locomotives were also busy, on the Llangollen Railway and on the Cambrian main line along the North Wales Coast. The programme ends in Aberystwyth, with the Electric Cliff Railway, and the Vale Of Rheidol, the last steam to be operated in Britain.

The War Years- Narrated by Michael Aspel

Available to order from Deltamusic.co.uk and Amazon.co.uk

The Phoney War
1938 - and the Munich Crisis. Germany invades Czechoslovakia and Britain introduces conscription. Trenches are dug and sandbags appear throughout London.

Poland is invaded and Britain declares war, London evacuates its children and the British Expeditionary Force embarks for France. Although British shipping is being sunk, this is the ‘Phoney War’. Blackout is introduced and road accidents double, Churchill replaces Chamberlain. The BEF is routed in France and the miracle of Dunkirk occurs. DeGaulle flies to London as Paris falls.

The Battle Of Britain
June 1940 and Western Europe is under German domination.
German bombers shell Channel convoys and the RAF is drawn into battle. The British public contribute saucepans and scrap metal to build aeroplanes. The Local Defence Volunteer Force (Home Guard) numbers 1.5m men but only 70,000 rifles.

As Italy enters the War, Americans predict that British defeat is inevitable. Heavy losses are sustained as Germans bomb aircraft factories. Air raid shelters become part of everyday life as 1000-bomber raids over London become a nightly event.

The Blitz
The final phase of the Battle of Britain takes place as the Blitz continues. One Londoner in every six is made homeless, but Hitler fails to gain air supremacy and the invasion is cancelled. Despite the pounding of London, morale remains high among its people.
The Luftwaffe broadens its targets with attacks on major ports and appallingly destructive raids on Coventry. Atlantic convoys suffer as U-Boat packs exact a heavy toll. Over 40,000 are killed in the Blitz and 200,000 made homeless.

The Turning Tide & The Final Chapter
The shared suffering has created a new comradeship and determination - ‘London can take it’ the Americans are told. However, one military disaster follows another as Rommel triumphs in North Africa.

Britain suffers acute shortages as three merchant ships are sunk in a day. Food rationing is introduced and America begins ‘Lend-Lease.’ Women contribute as never before, working in Industry, Women’s Services and civil defence. By 1943, some 7.5 million women are in paid employment, 50,000 in engineering and 20,000 on the land.

Hitler suffers crushing defeat in Russia although costs to the Soviets are enormous. 3m fighting men are stationed in the UK poised for the invasion of Europe. D-Day is the 6th of June, and within days of the landing over 3m allied soldiers are fighting on French soil.

The French Resistance fights street battles in Paris as the allies approach. V1 and V2 bombs pose a new threat to London, but by April Berlin is surrounded and Hitler commits suicide. Germany is defeated, but war against Japan will continue for a further 3 months.
