Take a stroll down memory lane with this series of Out Of Town programmes presented by Jack Hargreaves. Let Jack be your guide to a bygone era as he looks at the skills and lifestyles of the British countryside of 30 years ago. In his own unique, easy going style, Jack introduces country crafts and pursuits, animal husbandry, fly and coarse fishing, gypsy fairs, hobbies, nature and a way of life with a depth of knowledge rarely equalled. Fishermen and farriers, horsemen and horticulturists were all featured as Jack took the Southern Television cameras around the country to explore pursuits and activities which have become a nostalgic historical record of life in Britain from a past generation.
Out of Town ended in 1981 when Southern Television lost its ITV franchise. In 1986, working with Steve Wade, and using extracts from original location films by cameraman Stan BrĂ©haut, Jack added a new commentary for 28 “programmes” to be re created. New footage, presented by Jack and filmed in his shed at his home - Raven Cottage near Belchalwell in Dorset - was also filmed.
