Flo Rida Samples Etta James

Flo Rida samples Etta James with a song called Good Feeling. The Song was released in october 2011 but is now number 4 in th UK charts.

Born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles on January 25, 1938 to a 14 year old mother, Etta James was raised by a number of caregivers and received her first professional vocal coaching at the age of 5 from James Earle Hines, musical director of the Echoes of Eden choir, at the St. Paul Baptist Church in LA.

In 1960 Etta James signed with Chess’ Argo subsidiary, and immediately hit her commercial and creative stride with a pair of  duets recorded with her boyfriend Harvey Fuqua, lead singer of The Moonglows:  ‘If I Can’t Have You’ (R ‘n’ B #6)) and ‘Spoonful’(R ‘n’ B #12).  Her first solo hit for the label was ‘All I Could Do Was Cry’ (R ‘n’ B #2), following Chess records co-founder Leonard Chess’ decision to push Etta James in the direction of classy ballad singing, wrapping her passionate vocals in lush string arrangements on songs like her signature tune at ‘At Last’ (R ‘n’ B #2, Pop #47) and ‘Trust Me’ (R ‘n’ B #4, Pop #30) amongst others on her debut LP, At Last. Etta James’ second album for Chess, The Second Time Around, also largely focused on orchestral pop as the label continued their push to cross her over into the pop charts with some success, as the singles ‘Fool That I Am’, ‘Don’t Cry Baby’ and ‘Seven Day Fool’ all made it into the Top 100 Billboard Pop chart at #50, #39 and #95 respectively.
