Ricky Nelson Travelin'Man

Ricky Nelson Travelin' Man playing soon on Spotify, iTunes & Amazon.
Erich Hilliard ‘Ricky’ Nelson was born on 8th May 1940 in Teaneck, New Jersey, the second son of big band leader Ozzie Nelson and big band vocalist Harriet Hilliard Nelson. Harriet remained in New Jersey with Ricky and his older brother David while Ozzie toured the U.S. with his Nelson Orchestra.  In 1941, Ricky remained in Tenafly, NJ in the care of his grandmother while his parents and older brother moved to Hollywood, where Ozzie and Harriet were appearing on the ’41-’42 season of comedian Red Skelton’s The Raleigh Cigarette Hour radio show.

In 1953, encouraged by the success of the theatrical film Here Come the Nelsons, Ozzie was convinced it was time to transition from radio to television, and The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet made its TV debut on 3 October 1952. The programme would run until 3 September 1966, making it one of the longest running sit-coms in U.S. television history.

Crying - The Magic Of Roy Orbison

Crying - The Magic Of Roy Orbison now playing on Spotify, iTunes & Amazon

Roy Kelton Orbison (April 23, 1936 – December 6, 1988) was an American singer-songwriter, best known for his distinctive, powerful voice, complex compositions, and dark emotional ballads. Orbison grew up in Texas and began singing in a rockabilly/country and western band in high school until he was signed by Sun Records in Memphis.

His first single for Monument failed to chart, and its follow-up ‘Uptown’ only made it to #72 on Billboard’s Top 100 in 1959, but it was his next single, ‘Only the Lonely’ (turned down by both Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers) that made him a star, reaching #2 in the U.S. and #1 in the UK and Australia. Engineer Porter experimented with a completely new recording strategy, creating the mix from the top down rather from the bottom up, beginning with the close-miked background vocals in the foreground and ending with the rhythm section soft in the background, a combination which became Orbison's trademark.
